First version of Datspot: iOS/Android location-matching mobile app in React-Native (Expo), fully serverless AWS back end (AppSync, Lambda, DynamoDB, Cognito).
At a glance
- Android and iOS app in React-Native (Expo) from a single codebase
- Fully serverless back end: AppSync GraphQL API, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB
- Cognito authentication by phone number and Facebook
- In 2026, co-founder of the new version of Datspot with the same project owner
Location-matching mobile app: users create and discover “spots” on a map, around their position. The first version of Datspot, which I co-founded in 2026 for its new version.
Context
Full-stack mobile developer on the product, working directly with the founder, from the mobile front end to the cloud infrastructure.
Goal: ship a first iOS and Android version from a single codebase, on infrastructure with no server to manage, to validate the concept at low cost.
Stack: React-Native with Expo, AWS AppSync (GraphQL), AWS Lambda and Serverless Framework, AWS Amplify, Cognito, DynamoDB, CloudFormation.
Achievements
- Mobile app: map centered on the phone’s position with live tracking, spot creation by long press, reverse geocoding of addresses, translated interface (i18n)
- Serverless API: GraphQL API on AWS AppSync, AWS Lambda functions, DynamoDB persistence
- Authentication: AWS Cognito through Amplify, sign-in by phone number and Facebook, post-sign-up and post-sign-in triggers
- Infrastructure as Code: back end consolidated under Serverless Framework, AWS resources generated as CloudFormation
- Maintenance: Expo upgrades (SDK 33 then 34)
Results
- A single codebase for both mobile platforms
- No server to manage: on-demand, reproducible and versioned infrastructure
- A lasting relationship of trust: in 2026, I became co-founder of Datspot with the same project owner
